Mountain tour to the summit cross on the Hochkönig

Bergtour zum gipfelkreuz am hochkönig

The Hochkönig is commonly known as the summit of emotions, but what does it actually look like on its summit, i.e. at the summit of the summit of emotions? As the highest peak – there is that little word again – the Berchtesgaden Alps and one of the mightiest mountain ranges in the Northern Limestone Alps, the rock giant measures an impressive 2,941 m. Reaching the summit cross on the Hochkönig is actually only reserved for experienced mountaineers. A demanding ascent leads to one of the most beautiful views in the Salzburg region.

The ascent from Arthurhaus

Many roads lead to Rome and some climbs open up this special mountain tour to the Hochkönig. One of the most popular and easiest variants is the one on path no. 430, which starts at Arthurhaus in Mühlbach. A gravel road leads to the Mitterfeldalm, where you can spend the night. Now the marked trail on the edge of the Übergossene Alm wants to be tackled, and it already has it all. A flat firn field then provides a bit of relaxation before a final challenge follows: The section of the path, which is well secured with ladders and ropes, is steep and, like the rest of the ascent to the summit cross on the Hochkönig, requires good physical condition, absolute surefootedness and appropriate equipment as well as experience .

Once at the top

Once you have reached the peak of your emotions, a unique panorama spreads out. The panoramic view of the surrounding three thousand meter peaks inspires and enchants. The Matrashaus am Hochkönig is also located here, one of the highest mountain huts in the whole of the Alps. Here you can take a breather and enjoy the peace and quiet at lofty heights. The shining Hochkönig summit cross also wants to be admired; a striking steel construction that looks almost 500 kg and was welded together from 25 individual parts by students of the HTL Hallein.

This mountain tour, which is challenging in every respect, should take around twelve hours. Here the alpine chaff separates from the wheat, and so only really experienced mountaineers should dare the spectacular ascent. For hikers and less experienced mountaineers, the peak of feelings offers many more tours of all levels of difficulty, and the Hotel Sonnhof in Mühlbach is the perfect starting point for mountainous adventures.
